COLLEGE OF THEOLOGY

The Church has a new General Conference website that is wonderful!  You can access the text, audio, or video of each talk.  They also have a section for Children's Activities that will help your kids have a more meaningful conference experience.  Visit the Church's new website here.   And for your kids, they can print a Conference Notebook here to help them write or draw what they hear during the Conference.  This site can definitely help you to complete a credit in the College of Theology, by helping you have access to all the Conference talks, and to help make it a great experience for your kids as well.

COLLEGE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

The Church is having an International Video Contest where you can make your own "Mormon Message." The purpose of this contest is to give more members an opportunity to strengthen their testimonies as they share their talents and "join in the conversation" in sharing the gospel with the world.  It will also help gather videos and material that could be used in future Mormon Messages and other video projects.  Why not participate, and earn a credit in the College of Social Sciences.  For more information click here.

COLLEGE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

Now that we have Sister Missionaries serving in our ward, we have the wonderful opportunity to go out on team-ups with them.  Every week that we feed them we are responsible to help them with team-ups.  You can sign up on the meal calendar, and put whatever time of day works for you.  The sisters will then call you ahead of time and let you know what the plan is.  This is a wonderful way to help further the work here in our area, support the missionaries, gain a greater testimony, AND get a credit in the College of Social Sciences!  So, Sign up to Team up Today!

COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS

Do you have trouble living on a budget? Does the money run out before the month does? Do you manage your money, or does it manage you? Well, its time to make a change. We live in hard economic times where it is more important than ever to be financially sound. The Church has a booklet called "One For The Money" that gives great counsel on learning how to budget and get out of debt. You can download and print it here.  Then live by it's principles, and you will be well on your way to financial stability, and you'll also get a credit in the College of Business and Economics!

COLLEGE OF HOME ECONOMICS

It is apple season, so how about visiting a local farm, picking some apples, and trying a new recipe for one of your goals in the College of Home Economics!  Here is one that Madeline Scott brought to our Back to School Night!

                                                        
Philadelphia Style Apple Cake

6          cups peeled and thinly sliced Granny Smith apples
1 1/2    cups, plus 5 Tablespoons,  granulated sugar, divided
4          teaspoons cinnamon
3          cups all purpose flour
1          Tablespoon baking powder
1/2       teaspoon salt
4          eggs
1/2       cup light brown sugar
1          cup vegetable oil
1/2       cup orange juice
2 1/2    teaspoons vanilla extract

1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease, sugar and flour a 10 inch bundt or tube pan.
2.  Combine apple slices with 5 T. sugar and cinnamon, set aside.
3.  Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl and set aside.
4.  Beat eggs with remaining sugar and brown sugar.  Add vegetable oil, orange juice and vanilla; beat well.  Gradually blend in flour mixture and mix until well blended (about 1 minute).
5.  Pour one third of the batter into the pan.  Top with half the apple slices, draining off any liquid.  Pour in half the remaining batter and top with remaining apple slices.  Top with remaining batter, making sure the apples are covered.
6.  Bake 55 to 60 minutes, until the top turns golden brown and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.  Let cool 10 minutes in pan.  Turn out onto a wire rack and let cool completely.   Serves 16.

COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS

For those of you wanting to complete a credit in the College of Fine Arts, there is a wonderful podcast that the Church has called "History of Hymns - The Evolution of LDS Hymns."  There are 23 episodes, each one focusing on one hymn.  Each episode is about 30 minutes long and includes interesting stories surrounding the writing of the hymn, and different performances of it.  You may want to listen to one a week for a month, or choose 3 or 4 hymns  that are especially meaningful to you.  You can find the podcast in the iTunes store.  Just do a search in podcasts.  You can listen on your computer, put it on your iPod, or burn it to a disc and listen in the car.   If you need help finding it, or downloading it, just contact Professor Annie Hamrick or Professor Susan Norton.  Happy listening!
